About Your Session

Before Your Session

What To Expect

Upon arrival, you will be asked to fill out a short health history form. The information you provide on this form will remain completely confidential. At this time you may discuss what you would like the focus of your session to be. Additionally, any questions or concerns you have about your session may be addressed.

You will then have privacy to undress to whatever level you are comfortable with, and then get relaxed under the sheet and blanket. You will be covered at all times during your session. Only areas of the body being worked on will be exposed. EastWest provides a professional, private and safe environment for your session.

During Your Session

Relaxation

Massage and bodywork can provide amazing benefits for your body and mind. The most integral part in achieving this is relaxation. The more you are able to relax during your session, the more enjoyable and effective it will be.

Bodywork is most productive when you are able to participate through "unwinding". Focusing your awareness on areas of pain or tightness in your body, then breathing deeply, can help alleviate tension.

Your comfort level during your session is an essential part of your ability to relax and heal. Please communicate if any element of your session is uncomfortable.

Experiencing Pain

During certain forms of bodywork, particularly deeper work, you might experience discomfort or pain. At these times, it is important to verbally communicate if you are encountering too much discomfort. Pressure and technique can then be adjusted to lessen the pain you are experiencing.

Pain in areas of your body are a result of aggravated nerve fibers in your muscle and connective tissues. Pain is a manifestation of a stressed, injured or overworked area in your body.

While pain during bodywork should not be intolerable, it can be a catalyst in alleviating chronic muscle tension you may be experiencing. Working through pain can be beneficial in dissolving aches in your body.

Communication

You know your body better than anyone. You are encouraged to communicate how you feel at any time during your session. Pressure, technique, table temperature or room temperature can be modified to suit your needs. Please feel free to share any information during your session that will be useful in treating your body. Everyone experiences bodywork differently and open communication can be extremely beneficial during treatment.

After Your Appointment

Hydration & Rest

Massage and bodywork can have profound effects on your body. During treatment, toxins and wastes stored in your body have been released. It is important to drink lots of water in the 24 hours following your appointment so that your body can eliminate these byproducts. Insufficient intake of water after an appointment will allow for redistribution of toxins in your body resulting in muscle soreness and fatigue.

Occasionally, bodywork or massage can leave you feeling sore after your session. Warm epsom salt baths, hot tubs, heating pads or ice can provide some relief. Any soreness you may experience should disappear within a day or two.
